Elvis was born on December 5, 1933 in Carbondale, Illinois the son of the late Raymond and Carrie (McKinney) Wright.
After graduating University High School in Carbondale in 1951 he went on to work for the Illinois Central Railroad. In 1967 he graduated from the University of Illinois 45th Illinois Fire College. He worked for the Carbondale Fire Department from 1967 until he retired in 1988. Then he went on to work as an electrician until 2007.
Elvis is survived by one sister; Shelby Hill; brother Darwin Wright; his five children; Janice Wright; Diana Wright; Mariann Wright; Daniel Wright; Michael Wright; and his first wife and good friend Judy Jones; twelve grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Carrie Wright, his brother Ivan Wright a retired fire firefighter.
The family would like to acknowledge a few people that were very near and dear to our father’s heart; Larry Brinson for always being our dad’s buddy; Mike Rawson and Jimmy Hill for always loving and caring for him although he could make it difficult; Dave White and Babe Hoover what can we say – our dad loved and trusted you.
Last but not least our father lived life his way. He was hardheaded and always right. He’d argue with a fence post is given a chance. We pray that there is a place to fish in heaven and if he has a roommate, it’s a democrat not a republican.
Visitation will be Friday August 6th from 10- 11 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale. Interment with full Fire Fighter rites will be immediately following at Dillinger Cemetery in Carbondale with Brother Tim McNichols officiating.
Memorial may be given to Residential Hospice or Dillinger Cemetery.
